The historic James E. Talmage Building, a structure completed in 1902, has undergone renovations to preserve and improve safety and functionality. Originally built as a museum and later repurposed for biology instruction, the building now serves the School of Biological Sciences. Renovation efforts concentrated on upgrading infrastructure by replacing and retrofitting emergency fixtures, such as an eyewash station, on multiple floors. These updates include the installation of tempering valves, drainage systems, and both local and remote alarms, all in accordance with modern safety codes and NFPA standards.
